Deep Water Success with M.O.A. Guide Services
Lake Conroe - Montgomery, TX
Current conditions on Lake Conroe show water temperatures holding in the low-to-mid 50s. While the winter air remains crisp, the fishing has remained consistent for those who know where to look. Captain Okey Grimm reports that the lake’s resident species are currently favoring deeper structures and main lake channels as they navigate the typical February transition.
Catfish Report The catfish bite continues to be the most reliable action on the water. We are finding success targeting channel and blue catfish in depths of 20 to 50 feet. Focus has been on baited holes along the old river and creek channels. Using smelly baits or cut shad near the 1097 Bridge area has produced steady numbers, making it a great time for families to get out and stay busy with consistent catches.
Bass and Hybrid Updates Largemouth bass are beginning to stir as they look toward the upcoming pre-spawn phase. Currently, the most productive patterns involve slow-rolling spinnerbaits or dragging soft plastics around deeper docks and secondary points in 15 to 20 feet of water. Meanwhile, hybrid striped bass are schooling near main lake humps. We have had success trolling light tackle and vertically jigging spoons to target these aggressive feeders.
Planning Your Outing With the current clear-to-stained water and moderate winds, morning trips departing at 7:30 AM are offering the best windows of activity. Guests are encouraged to dress in versatile layers, as the morning chill quickly gives way to warmer afternoon sun. Remember to bring your own refreshments, lotion-based sunblock, and a valid Texas fishing license.
